HOT TOPIC - Credit Counseling Idaho Code requires
anyone engaged in credit counseling to be licensed with the Department of
Finance. The only exception is a
real estate licensee who is working with a buyer or seller as part of a
specific real estate transaction. People advertising themselves as offering only "short sale
negotiation" services may need to obtain a credit counseling license. Please contact IREC's Enforcement
Department or the Department of Finance
if you have any questions!
License Agreements Cancelled All IREC license
agreements, except for Oregon, have been cancelled effective 3/23/09. Licenses obtained under an agreement have
been converted to primary Idaho licenses. The biggest change for those who were licensed under a reciprocal or
other license agreement is that licensees now must show proof of completing
16 hours of CE electives plus an Idaho Core course to renew the Idaho
license. In addition, new license
applicants who are already licensed in another state will be required to
pass the Idaho portion of the licensing exam. Questions? Call the IREC Licensing Dept.
Electronic Fingerprints - Coming Soon!! The Real Estate
Commission has contracted with Pearson Vue, the license exam provider, to
offer electronic fingerprinting services at its Idaho and Spokane test
centers for new license applicants (sales associate and broker). Candidates can take the licensing exam
and be fingerprinted at the same time, and they will pay all fingerprint
fees to the vendor at the same time as the exam fees. Using "Live Scan" equipment and software,
fingerprints will be electronically transmitted directly to Idaho State
Police for review. Results will
often be received within 24-48 hours. We hope to launch the electronic fingerprinting service by April 1st,
and paper fingerprint cards will be discontinued soon. We also have a plan for out-of-state
candidates, so please contact us if you have any questions!
